A common mistake: cropping too tight
Zooming in aggressively to fill the frame with just the face can cut off the top of the head or the chin, which most photo standards explicitly disallow — they generally expect some space above the head and the top of the shoulders visible at the bottom. Leave a small margin above the head and below the chin when framing, rather than zooming in until the face fills the entire crop box edge-to-edge.
